Control Vs. Power

Influence, Motivation, and Command

These words above speak on a few things that come to mind when I think of the word Power. I do apologize for it being such a long time in between blogs. I will strive to be more consistent. The title of this blog deals with two different extremes in my humble (but accurate) opinion that yield the same end result in our social and corporate lives. I will attempt to shed some light on the subject, that if understood can calm many disputes, and give one better insight about themselves and the world around them.

First, let us deal with the word control, which the definition I will use for this blog is, to limit or restrict someone or something. Also I will use an alternate definition which is, to exercise power over something. When I resigned from my last job (UPS) I realized that I was fed up with the controlling aspect of the employer, that I at one time enjoyed working for. I noticed that the tactics used during my last months at UPS were more and more along the lines of this definition. Meaning, that fear of unemployment, verbal or written reprimand, and loud talking were used to intimidate individuals. I honestly must admit, I rarely ran into this myself, I suppose because I was a pretty good worker bee.

The longer I worked there the more this weighed on me. I recently ran across a term that I am constantly in love with and seeking...SOVEREIGNTY. Most people view it as kingly or having dominion over something. Sound familiar. I am after sovereignty of self. I don't want to rule people, or be dogmatic, threatening, or even having individuals/groups under my supervision in the sense of control. I do want to work with people, instruct, and help them be the best individuals they are capable of being by the divine creative spark that lies within all individuals with souls(I actually think some people don't have a soul..LOL).

Sovereignty a buzz word that if you don't know it, and it's full scope I suggest you google it and its various forms legally, spiritually, etc...etc. One is empowered when they are sovereign. One is independent, first, and most important. The latin phrase for sovereign is Princeps Summus (adj. princep-1st,originator, or most important/summus-highest point, distinguished excellence). I know you want to know about control and power I had to take a side step to introduce this concept as you will need it to deal with the meat of my blog. So please be patient and think about what i just gave you in this nugget of truth called a paragraph above.

Now, we have established what control is, and also what sovereignty entails as well. let's look at power and see which one of these, control or power yields us closer to sovereignty(if you agree that control or power is something to pursue in life). Power can be defined as the ability to influence people's judgement or emotions, and also as having the ability, capacity, and strength to do something. This sets up a pretty interesting scenario as far as it relates to both work and our social circle.

I have family, friends, and others who are able to delve into both sides of this equation. The equation being one of exercising a controlling nature, or being a powerful individual. My mother is a classic example of this. She is a powerful woman who speaks with passion about what she cares for (sound familiar), and at the same time a person who uses what I call "control tactics" to have what she wants at times or to command respect from others. My father on the other hand, doesn't need to speak much to be heard (even though he does..LOL). He says something and people respond. It is like magic. He also too however, has a control mechanism that he uses where he plays on emotions to illicit support for a cause(if you haven't noticed yet, I am a pretty open person).

What does this all mean you ask? It's simple it means that we all have this nature to be controlling or to emit powerful waves of influence and strength depending on our nature. I would even go on to say it is our divine gift to make this choice and to exhibit this ability whichever one we choose. However, using universal law principles (another blog) I would have to lean towards power as it resembles the laws of things that just is without any extra additives or preservatives if you follow me. "If it is our divine nature, than why don't we always operate in power," you ask. Simple we were taught to be less when we are actually more, so we could be controlled.

I know I have your attention now. I will explain using my passion and second favorite pastime personal training. I have recently started training several friends of mine and their friends. I love it and it is picking up. My workouts are tailored around body weight and limited equipment. I also usually have groups of 4 to 6 people at one time. What I decided to do, so I can keep things in order(control), was to have them do the same thing the same way for an allotted time. This allows me to monitor them and keep track of them, by having them follow a set routine that keeps them (limited/controlled) and keeps me (sovereign/first cause/highest point/chief). If for example, everyone did something different it would be impossible to monitor everyone's form and make sure they are doing the exercises correctly.

Now, that you see how control and power works. Let me answer the question I failed to do in the previous paragraph. Since we entered this world/age/dimension we have been controlled. It all starts with our parents. Don't do this and don't do that. They do it really trying to protect(control/limit/monitor) us for our own well being. Then friends, teachers, counsellors, employers, governments, and the like add to this fallacy of looking out for us. I can't tell you how much fear a child can be taught just by the do's and don'ts club of society. Let's stop right here and right now of giving that type of advice and lean more towards a different approach.

The tactics outlined above about control are what we use in our relationships with friends and family. We then take them to our place of employment and corrupt our co-workers or rather reinforce the false paradigm in them. Ever lowering our chance to ascending to higher heights of consciousness and true evolution(power/sovereignty/universal supremacy).

How do we close this off? Do the exact opposite of the control tactics in your dealings with people. We don't have to threaten our children, friends, and coworkers with bad news or consequences. We can still relay the same message with thoughtful explanation and love. If you help someone innerstand something once, you will never have to help that individual again.

However, I believe we enjoy the control, manipulation, and fear caused in others due to our vampire like nature and lust for the illusion of power(ability/influence/dominance) of others.
We can shape the planet and send it into a different direction if we so choose. It just takes one soul with sovereignty and innerstanding of power and a will for self improvement of both others and themselves.

Let it be you.

Be Safe and Be Mindful,

DBG

  3. good read DG! I especially liked the part about "helping someone innerstand..." - somthing i'm going to try to start working on going forward...especially w/ the kids and with my training as well. It makes a lot of sense and, even though i think our instincts are to lead/teach based on consequences- i think if we all take that extra moment to override that 'innate' feeling and work to help people innerstand something, we will be taking big strides in the right direction...

    :)
